Banteay
Srei, Cambodia
"Banteay Srei Temple, Angkor" ©2001 photo Elroy Christenson This small series of buildings
were actually designed as a library of Hinduism by Hindu scholar and
royal counsellor, Yajnavaraha. It's construction is dated to the
mid 10th century. It is a gem in terms of its carving and more
human scale. Many of the original freestanding sculptures have been
removed to museums and replaced with concrete duplicates. The
trip to this temple by taxi from Angkor was quite an adventure through
often pouring rain among the lorries and and bullock carts.
