Ghost Ranch, New Mexico
"Ghost Ranch, New Mexico" The Ghost Ranch was made
famous by Georgia O'Keefe and her friends. Georgia
came to New Mexico from New York City where she lived
with her husband Alfred Stieglitz. She spent summers
here and winters in New York. She loved the west
and painted hundreds of paintings of the region and its
colored rock formations. She loved its
isolation and had a small house on the
ranch. The Ghost Ranch has been acquired by
a religious group and presently uses it for conferences,
retreats and rents it to other groups. Georgia
eventually make a permanent home in Abiquiu where the
O'Keefe Foundation is still housed. You have
to make reservation as much as a year in advance to get
in. Most of her work is now in the Santa Fe Art
Museum. ©1999 Elroy Christenson |
