"Sianok Valley near Bukittinggi, west Sumatra", ©1994 photo Elroy Christenson
This picturesque valley is a
realitively difficult place to get to. The city of Bukittinggi is has a
terrific market and some interesting swept wing type roofs on the
houses. The Japanese had control of this area during World War II and
used enslaved labor to create a series of tunnels into the cliffs of
the region.
