Saqsaywaman. Cusco, Peru

"Saqsaywaman. Cusco, Peru" © 2015 photo Elroy Christenson

The complex of Saqsaywaman seems to be more of a palace than a temple.  It sits on a hill overlooking the city of Cusco.  It was constructed with stones that are incredibly large.  It is as remarkable in building technique as is Stonehenge in England.  It was apparently built by the Killke people who came into the area about 900 CE.  They put up these structures which were of religious and military use about 1100 CE. The Inca came in about the 13th century and imposed their organization and added onto the earlier structures here and in the city below.   Unfortunately the weather was terrible while we were here with pouring rain and rather cold.
