Rotorua, New Zealand
NZ.steam.Rotorua.72.jpg

"Steam vents in Rotorua, New Zealand"(photo) ©2001 photo Elroy Christenson

Rotorua sits in a caldera of an only slightly inactive volcano. It still sends steam up through the street cracks and drains. Sulfur smell permeates the air and invades the hotel rooms in rolling waves. The thin crust of soil is easy broken with a delicate walk across the park grounds with strangly colored fungus inhabiting the small hot puddles.
