"Elfreth's Alley, Philadelphia" This area of Philadelphia is
"the oldest residential street" in the nation. It
was established in 1702 after two blacksmith, John Gilbert
and Arthur Wells, decided to take parts of their
properties to create access from the river to Second
Street. It has building that were build as part of a
working quarter for the city. Often times several
families would live in a single home. Today it is a
historic district with museums and mixed residences.
