"Monticello" Monticello was Thomas
Jefferson's
plantation home near Charlotte, Va. Jefferson was
a true
Renaissance man, designing and inventing different
techniques for
living. The kitchen is in the basement. He had
almost a hundred
slaves and after his wife died he takes his wife's half
sister, a
mulatto slave as his consort. He had four children
by her
although never marrying her or freeing her. Her
children were
freed later but some had to pay for their freedom. |
