"Roskilde Cathedral with location of Harold "Bluetooth", ©2020 Elroy Christenson The Roskilde Cathedral has
more royal burials than any other cathedral in
Europe. Much of the information on my family
lineage comes from records that were made by an unnamed
monk who recorded their names here. King of
Denmark, Harold "Bluetooth" Gormsson, the son of Old
Gorm, both are my relatives. Harold buried his
father and mother in Jelling but he moved to Roskilde
where he held court. One of sons, Sweyn
Forkbeard, wanted to take control of the kingdom and
declared war on his father. Harold was killed in the
battle and was buried here in the cathedral under one of
the pillars on the left, as the story goes. The
church site was used for several rebuildings including
after one fire that burned down most of the town, and
consequently bones were lost or not identified in the
process.
