"The Lindholm Høje", ©1985 Elroy Christenson This "Viking Cemetery" was
covered by sand for a several hundred years just north
of Aalborg on the Jutland peninsula. The
discovery of stones here were quarried and broken up to
be used for road building. Finally the discovery
of some Viking Age remnants started a concerted effort
to excavate and document what was here. It now is
accompanied by a museum established in that shows
the life and artifacts of the time establish in
1992.
There was a village just outside the cemetery but cremations and ceremonies were held here for over about a hundred years from 1000 – 1050 AD while some may go back to the 5th century. It may have included as many as 700 graves.
