Aboriginal Rock Art

 "Ularu", ©1997 photo Elroy Christenson

In several protected cave areas around the base of Ularu are rock art drawings. These magical images were produced by the women's society. There are caves locations for both the men and the women. Most of these are off limits to tourists and are still used for ceremonies for these societies. There is no way to date these particular images. Some may be very old and others very new. Rock art drawings in one location in Australia have been dated back to 40,000 bce, making them much older than any other known cave art in the world.

A slightly larger version of the panorama of Ularu is viewable here.
